playgroup #2 Phaedra(s)
Monday 20 June, 7-9pm
Every few months playgroup go and see a play currently showing in London . For the second session we’ll be going to see Phaedra(s) directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski at The Barbican. We have already booked for the group, so to join you can purchase as an individual via LIFT or the Barbican. Note they each have separate ticket allocations if you find one is sold-out.

On the 20th June from 7-9.pm, we’re going to meet at Res in Deptford to talk through the production. The aim is to consider the possibilities of 21st Century theatre, in relation to text and production, and also look at parallels across the arts. As with the first the playgroup, which looked at Cleansed staged at the National, there will be a selection of archive material, relevant artists’ work and copies of the text available to feed the discussion. Any suggestions for reading or screening on the evening (we have a projector and sound system) is welcome. Short extracts need not be sent in advance, only notify for more lengthy suggestions.

We will also eat together, potluck style so bring something shop bought or home-made but no pressure on the culinary front! Cheap beer, wine and tea will be available to buy.
Address is: Res. Enclave 1-3, 50 Resolution Way, London SE8 4AL   (use SE8 4NT for GPS as it’s a new build so first postcode sometimes doesn’t work!)

The show draws on various versions of Phaedra including Sarah Kane, J M Coetzee and Wajdi Mouawad:

Kane: Please email contact@beingres.org and we will make a copy of Sarah Kane’s Phaedra’s Love available to you.
Coetzee: Review of Elizabeth Costello by J.M. Coetzee in New York review of books
Mouawad: Trailer for The Last Day of His Life; 7 Tragedies of Sophocles
Seneca: Phaedra, Seneca, trans Frank Justus Miller
Racine: Phèdre , Jean Baptiste Racine Translator: Robert Bruce Boswell Release Date: October 30, 2008 [EBook #1977] Last Updated: February 7, 2013

We invite suggestions of what to go and see next and will use our combined knowledge to secure cheap tickets, buddying up to get day tickets or booking as a group. Please email contact@beingres.org to join the mailing list and receive the benefits of future group bookings.
