THIS MOVEMENT

THIS MOVEMENT Reading Group

A close collective reading of Bojana Kunst’s The Artist at Work: Proximity of Art and Capitalism, Zero Books, 2005

Next session: 22 November,  7-9pm
Doors from 6.45pm

Reading will begin with ‘Movement, Duration and Post Fordism’ – chapter four of Bojana Kunst’s 2016 book The Artist at Work: Proximity of Art and Capitalism.

“The main affirmation of artistic practice must today happen through thinking about the conditions and the status of the artist’s work. Only then can it be revealed that what is a part of the speculations of capital is not art itself, but mostly artistic life. Artist at Work examines the recent changes in the labour of an artist and addresses them from the perspective of performance.” – Kunst, The Artist at Work: Proximity of Art and Capitalism, Zero Books, 2005

The group was set up by Hamish MacPherson as a space for some fellow artists to think about the relationships between contemporary dance and capitalism; both in theory and in relation to their own lives. It is part of THIS MOVEMENT, a series of activities exploring how politics is made through the movements of bodies (human or otherwise). thismovement.org
