IN RESIDENCY
Live Action Role-Play written by Lizzie Stark
19 November 4 – 9pm
Want to be an Artist, or a different Artist? IN RESIDENCY is an American Freeform game about the relationship between trauma and art. This Live Action Role-Play (larp) features politically and socially satirical facets, often thought of as more familiar to the Nordic genre of larp. These darker, psychologically perplexing games, propose a release from the obligations and ramifications of our everyday lives while still existing in a familiar ideological realm.
Enacted within Res., IN RESIDENCY revolves around a group of artists who are living together in a communal artist colony called Brython, based within the grounds of a secluded mansion in the forest (aka Deptford):
“For residents at this elite artists’ colony, Brython represents the chance to live full time as their most secret selves, ignoring everything but their sacred drive to elevate the soul through art. By day, they make art in the beautiful surroundings of a fully staffed mansion, transforming their dark pasts into beauty. By night, they live in a fishbowl of observation and unresolved sexual tension. Will they overcome impostor syndrome to work on the projects they said they would? Will their off-colony relationships survive? Or will it all degenerate into Bacchanalia?” – Stark, 2014
Open to all players, including those who have never participated in a Larp before. A full introduction, walkthrough and debrief will be provided. It is a freeform game with no previous skills or experience required.
The script for IN RESIDENCY is composed by USA based writer and journalist Lizzie Stark. Her published works include Leaving Mundania: Inside the Transformative World of Live Action Role-Playing Games published by Chicago Press: 2012.
IN RESIDENCY at Res. is facilitated by Sarah Jury, Francis P. Brady and Una Hamilton Halle.
